Some topics you may be interested in:

  • Person Centered Care: A Practice Development Approach – Holistic care that is respectful of individual and family needs and wishes has long been considered the essence of quality nursing care, but translating these principles into everyday care can be a challenge. This workshop assists care teams to examine and evaluate their care environment, and their care processes and practices related to principles of person centered care. Participants develop a common vision for person centered care in their facility, and devise an action plan for moving toward the vision.
  • Person Centered Care Facilitator Training – Developing and maintaining a culture of person centered care requires designated leaders who will facilitate the process of culture transformation. Facilitators enable care givers to understand and change their behaviours and attitudes, examine alternative ways of doing things, and develop their practice so that person centeredness becomes the “way of doing business”. This workshop prepares individuals to take on the facilitator role in long term care facilities desiring to develop a person centered culture of care. It covers topics such as addressing feelings within the team and overcoming resistance; facilitating learning in clinical groups; providing individual and group feedback; mapping of action plans; and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Healthy Aging in Long Term Care – Individuals become residents of long term care facilities because chronic disease and disability have made it impossible for them to care for themselves at home. Though their level of physical health and independence has declined, their social, emotional and spiritual health could be strong. This workshop assists care staff to approach care giving from a wellness perspective that focuses on the strengths and abilities of residents rather than disease and disability. Participants learn to evaluate residents’ individual strengths and incorporate these strengths into the care plan.
